During the period from 16 October 2008 till 28 October 2008 different events aimed at prevention of racism are arranged throughout Europe and guided by the FARE organization (an official UEFA partner). In Ukraine such event is organized for the second consecutive year while in Europe it is already the 9-th FARE Action Week.
Last year our activities included a football tournament for foreign students and national minorities.
This time around due to financial help obtained from the Lviv City Council and the FC “Karpaty” Honorary president Mr Dyminskyy we got an opportunity to realize almost all our ideas.
So 1-8 October 2008 pupils from Lviv schools took part in a drawing competition on the topic “Different colours – one game”. We collected more than 70 artworks.
The second “FARE-Eurofan” tournament will be held at the “Trudovye rezervy” stadium on 18-19 October.
14 teams will be divided into 4 groups, i.e. Group “A” (Morocco, Jordan, Poland, Syria), Group “B” (Bulgaria, combined team of Morocco Berbers – “Sahara”, Tunisia, combined team of Brazilians and Lviv journalists), Group “C” (Nigeria, Armenia, Lebanon), Group “D” (Ukraine, Kurdistan, combined team of Muslim countries – “Al-Nebras”).
Apart from the tournament team captains will choose winners of the children’s drawing competition. Starting from Tuesday, 21 October pictures drawn by kids will be displayed in hallways of the second floor of the Lviv City Council building. Along with drawings we plan to display few dozens of thematic photos sent to us by courtesy of press offices of FC “Karpaty”, FC “Lviv”, FC “Tavriya”, FC “Zorya”, FC “Zenit” (Russia) and the press attaché of the football player Anatoliy Tymoschuk.
Before matches of rounds 11 and 12 of the EpiCentre Ukrainian football Championship 2008-09 players of Lviv football clubs (FC “Karpaty” and FC “Lviv”) together with their opponents will show symbolic red cards to racism. Also in streets of Lviv during the FARE Action Week period one will see 20 city-lights (junior panels) informing Lviv citizens, tourists and guests about the European initiative. |
